Introduction
Norman "Neal" Deaton started his
career at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
From there he moved to Washington, D.C. to join the staff of
the U.S. National Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Neal
climaxed his Smithsonian
career when Wm. L. Brown and he prepared the worlds' largest
recorded elephant for display. It now stands in the rotunda
of the U.S. National Museum, Washington, D.C.
In 1959 Neal returned to his native Iowa to establish
a studio exclusively for the creation of exhibits for natural science
museums. He set a standard of excellence in his workmanship that
produced a nationally recognized name in natural science museums.
Versatile seasoned professional with over 45 years
experience creating art and exhibits for natural science and historical
museums. Available for sculpture, painting, model-making, wood carving
and consulting projects for private collectors,
museums or galleries.
